• A decade ago,ContourGlobal’s Talara and Cupisnique wind farms in Peru introduced large-scale wind energy in the Country, with a combined capacity of 114 MW.

• In Austria, four out of seven wind farms acquired in 2014 have already been repowered, increasing annual power generation by 66% while reducing the turbine count by 19%.

• On the island of Bonaire, where ContourGlobal is the sole power generator, an 11MW farm is part of an innovative hybrid generation hub contributing to decarbonize the Island’s power supply

Lima, Vienna and Milan, November 19, 2024 – ContourGlobal, an independent power producer with a diversified global portfolio, celebrates the 10th anniversary of its wind power operations, spotlighting significant achievements in Austria, Peru, and Bonaire. With a total wind capacity of 287 MW across ten sites, ContourGlobal is committed to advancing renewable energy worldwide with relevant ambitions to grow in wind technology.

Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of ContourGlobal, commented, “We are incredibly proud of our wind heritage that spans far beyond the 10 years of operations, as many of these projects started to be developed many years before. As part of our commitment to a renewable future, ContourGlobal has a gross pipeline of over 2 GW of wind development projects, aligning with our goal of becoming a predominantly renewable Independent Power Producer (IPP) by 2030.”

In Peru, ContourGlobal made history in October 2014 with the start of its Talara and Cupisnique wind farms, which were the first large-scale wind energy production facilities in the country. The combined 114 MW capacity (31 MW at Talara and 83 MW at Cupisnique) represents a significant milestone not only for ContourGlobal but also for renewable energy development in Peru.

The company’s accumulated Generation accounts for 27% of Peru’s historical wind generation (444 GWh / year over the last decade) and represented 17% of the country’s total wind production in 2023. The company is already advancing plans for repowering and expansion of current plants as well as for co-location of solar in the Talara site. These developments could potentially add close to 250 MW of new renewable capacity to the Peruvian grid in the next four to five years.

In Austria, ContourGlobal marked a decade since acquiring seven wind farms in the country, which now operate at a capacity of 162 MW after a repowering completed in 2023. This upgrade of four wind farms allowed the company to increase the original 150 MW capacity and boost clean energy production from an initial 240 GWh/year to 400 GWh/year, while the number of wind turbines decreased from 70 to 57.

Repowering of the remainder three plants is already under development and, upon completion, the company expects to raise capacity to 230 MW and to more than double the initial annual production of electricity, before the end of the decade. The company’s growth strategy in Austria includes an ambitious 1 GW pipeline, with potential investments reaching one billion euros by 2030, a significant contribution to Austria’s renewable energy goals.

On the island of Bonaire, ContourGlobal operates an 11 MW wind facility integrated into a hybrid generation hub that also includes solar PV, battery storage, and thermal engines. This pioneering project has been crucial in using wind energy to decarbonize the grid on the Caribbean island since 2010. The company is also pursuing repowering projects, building on the accumulated experience, that could allow to more than double the existing capacity and help meet the island’s rapidly growing energy needs.
