SOLUTIONS PLANTS MEXICO

On November 25th, 2019, ContourGlobal acquired two highly efficient combined heat and power (“CHP”) plants power plants in Mexico from Alpek S.A.B. de C.V, (“Alpek”). The two CHP plants provide electricity and steam under long-term contracts to subsidiaries of Alfa S.A.B. de C.V (“Alfa Group”), a leading Mexican industrial conglomerate that controls Alpek, and other commercial and industrial customers.

CELCSA

  • 104 MW

    installed capacity

  • Since 2014

    in operation

CELCSA, located in Cosoleacaque, Veracruz, has a capacity of 104MW and entered into commercial operations in December 2014.  It provides power and steam to Alpek’s adjacent petrochemical plants under long-term supply agreement, with excess power output supplied to large industrial and commercial off-takers in Mexico through medium and long-term supply agreements. CELCSA was one of the first CHP plants to enter into operations in Mexico.

CGA

  • 414 MW

    installed capacity

  • Since 2019

    in operation

CGA is located in Altamira, Tamaulipas and has a capacity of 414MW. CGA entered into commercial operations in the third quarter of 2019 and is one of the most efficient CHP plants in Mexico. Like our other facility in Mexico, CELCSA, CGA is adjacent to a petrochemical plant owned by Alpek that receives steam and power under a long-term supply agreement.  Excess power output is sold to a diversified portfolio of commercial and industrial off-takers through medium and long-term supply agreements.

Highly efficient cogeneration facilities

CELCSA and CGA are classified as clean energy technologies in Mexico, a regulatory framework that recognizes the facilities’ superior operating efficiency compared to conventional gas and liquid fired generation.

These assets are part of our Solutions Division, a portfolio focused on bringing highly efficient cogeneration capacity to industrial customers and off-takers that include Alpek, Coca-Cola Hellenic, AmBev and Ingredion. These plants provide both steam and electricity to clients and, in some facilities, heat, chilled water and carbon capture.
