ContourGlobal has recently joined Solar Power Europe and WindEurope, the leading European Trade Associations for solar and wind energy. Our company’s commitment to be an active voice in Europe’s key platforms on renewable technologies was initiated with the membership to Solar Power Europe in April and, on June 26th, the Annual General Assembly of WindEurope in Brussels officially validated ContourGlobal as a member. The proceedings of the General Assembly also highlighted challenges for the incoming European Commission to review permitting rules that hamper wind development, the pressing need to reinforce the role of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to boost industrial electrification with renewables and the importance of continuing to improve the EU Market Design.
Both associations are valuable platforms for information exchange among experts, collaboration on policy development and joint advocacy on common objectives across national and European policy making processes.
These developments underscore ContourGlobal’s commitment to decarbonization and its strategy to expand its portfolio of sustainable, clean energy projects, while also being engaged in relevant discussions on policies and the future development of the sector.
Through its active participation in both Solar Power Europe and WindEurope, the company aims to contribute, through the different workgroups, to address key issues such as innovation, technology advancement, market regulations, and national and EU decarbonization policies in the two fastest growing technologies in renewable electricity generation.
ContourGlobal presently operates 1,7 GW of renewable assets across seven countries and plans to significantly scale up its renewable portfolio in Europe, through substantial investments in both new projects and the repowering of existing facilities to boost efficiency and productivity. The company has recently executed wind repowering projects in Austria elevating its installed capacity to 162 MW and is carrying out solar photovoltaic revamping and repowering projects in Italy targeting a final capacity of 113 MW. Numerous additional projects are under development across the EU, where the company also operates PV plants in Romania and Slovakia for a total capacity of 42 MW, in addition to being one of Europe’s most relevant operators of Concentrated Solar Power with 250 MW of capacity in Spain.
Antonio Cammisecra, President and CEO of ContourGlobal, stated, “our membership in Solar Power Europe and WindEurope will enable us to actively participate in renewable energy policy advocacy and leverage the alignment of our industrial strategy with the goals promoted by both associations. These collaborations are important in the current European 2030 and 2050 climate targets as we continue to advance our ambitious commitment to a sustainable energy future”.
