Power Plants in Spain
In Spain, ContourGlobal operates a total of six power assets with a combined capacity of 1,050 MW, showcasing a balanced mix of renewable and thermal technologies. Our renewable footprint includes five 50 MW Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants located across Extremadura and Andalusia, totaling 250 MW. These plants, operational since 2009–2012, utilize parabolic trough technology and are regulated under Spain’s renewable remuneration scheme. Together, they supply clean energy to approximately 161,000 households and have earned triple ISO certifications for quality, environmental, and occupational safety standards.
In the thermal segment, the 800 MW Arrúbal Combined-Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant in La Rioja provides critical baseload capacity and grid-balancing services to support Spain’s growing renewable generation. Since acquiring the plant in 2011, ContourGlobal has maintained top-tier performance and implemented industry-leading HSE practices.
We also invest in the local communities where we operate — from funding engineering scholarships at the University of La Rioja, to providing internships and plant tours for students, fostering a new generation of talent in the energy sector.
