Power Plants in Chile

In December 2024, ContourGlobal entered the Chilean renewables market through the acquisition of a large-scale solar PV + battery energy storage (BESS) portfolio, with a total generation capacity of 451 MW and 2.5 GWh of BESS (equivalent to 400 MW of storage with up to 6.5 hours of duration).

The Quillaga facility, located in Antofagasta, includes 221 MWp of Solar PV and 200 MW of BESS fully in operation. It is under a 15-year PPA with an investment-grade counterparty purchasing energy overnight.

Located in Tarapacá, the Victor Jara project began construction in December 2024 and is progressing on schedule. Like Quillaga, it has a 15-year PPA secured and will supply clean energy into the night, supporting grid stability and decarbonization in Chile.

These projects mark a regional milestone, representing the longest-duration hybrid solar + storage development in South America, and supporting ContourGlobal’s “Solar at Night” model, which delivers clean energy even during off-sunlight hours.

Our Renewable Portfolio

Quillagua

Quillagua is a 221 MWp photovoltaic solar plant with a 1.2 GWh battery storage system, capable of delivering 200 MW for 6.2 hours after sunset, making it the largest solar plant with a storage system in Latin America. The plant is under a long-term clean energy purchase agreement (PPA), ensuring the supply of solar energy at night and dispatching any surplus to the commercial market.

Victor Jara

We are moving ahead with the construction in Tarapacá of the Victor Jara project – a 230 MW PV plant coupled with 1.3 GWh of BESS) which started in December 2024. Based on the progress of construction, we are now expecting COD of this plant in the second half of 2025.

Victor Jara, as well as Quillagua, has secured a 15-year PPA with an investment grade counterparty that buys our energy overnight.
