ContourGlobal announces the appointment of Carlo Zorzoli, Executive Vice President, Europe & Africa, to the Board of Directors of SolarPower Europe, further strengthening its engagement with the association and its work with European institutions shaping the European Union’s key energy policies.
At a time when energy security, affordability, and industrial competitiveness have returned to the center of the European agenda, Carlo’s appointment brings a strong business and investment perspective to one of the sector’s leading industry associations. It also reflects the growing role of independent power producers (IPPs) in delivering Europe’s renewable expansion. As the transition requires substantial private investment, IPPs are increasingly central to bridge the gap between policy ambition and project execution, bringing capital, expertise, and operational capability across markets.
With over 30 years of experience in the energy industry, Carlo Zorzoli has built an international profile through roles of increasing responsibility across global energy companies. Today, as Executive Vice President, Europe & Africa, at ContourGlobal—an international independent power producer headquartered in Europe and backed by KKR—he oversees a diversified portfolio and contributes directly to the development, financing, and operation of energy assets across multiple markets.
I am pleased to contribute to the Board by bringing the perspective of an independent power producer with direct exposure to how markets translate energy policy into investment,” said Carlo Zorzoli. “At a time when the energy transition requires massive capital, ensuring that Europe remains an attractive and predictable market for long-term investment is essential. Independent power producers have a key role to play in delivering new renewable and storage capacity, with the operational experience and financial commitment needed to turn ambition into execution.”
Europe’s energy independence and security have become an urgent priority, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions and persistent energy market volatility. In response, the clean energy transition has returned to the forefront of the European political and industrial agenda. In recent months, EU institutions have advanced initiatives aimed at accelerating deployment and strengthening security of supply through affordable, homegrown clean energy.
Throughout his career, Carlo has developed expertise across key technologies driving the energy transition, including solar photovoltaic, concentrated solar power, battery energy storage systems, repowering, and hybrid renewable solutions, as well as on-shore wind. His experience across Europe, the Americas, and other international markets enables him to bring a global perspective and practical best practices to the European energy debate.
The appointment builds on ContourGlobal’s high-level engagement across key European industry platforms shaping the energy agenda, including SolarPower Europe and WindEurope, alongside its involvement with national associations.
Renewables are a core pillar of ContourGlobal’s European strategy. The company has established a strong presence across five EU countries (Spain, Italy, Austria, Bulgaria, Greece), with more than 100 assets in operation and a solar footprint of approximately 550 MW of installed capacity, either operating or under construction. Its portfolio includes both photovoltaic and concentrated solar power technologies and is complemented by around 200 MW and 500 MWh of battery energy storage capacity already in operation. This platform is further supported by an active repowering program, including a major initiative in Italy covering more than 70 photovoltaic plants, aimed at significantly increasing capacity and output without additional land use.
