ContourGlobal announces a new milestone in its expansion across Latin America with the acquisition and commissioning of Condor, an 11 MWp photovoltaic plant located in Simijaca, Cundinamarca. The project represents the company’s first renewable asset in Colombia and marks a significant step forward in ContourGlobal’s broader strategy to accelerate its energy transition across key global markets. The Condor PV plant, acquired through the company’s subsidiary TermoemCali, operates under a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a local energy trader. Situated at 2,500 meters above sea level and approximately 115 km from Bogotá, the facility benefits from exceptional solar radiation and environmental conditions that enhance its performance and efficiency. “The project was successfully managed by our team based in Latam, with highly effective support from our Corporate functions. This collaboration ensured the overall success of the project”, remarked Fernando Barrera, General Manager of ContourGlobal Colombia.
The plant covers a 19-hectare site and has an installed capacity of 9.9 MW / 11.16 MWp, with an expected annual generation of 23 GWh. Construction began in June 2023, with initial generation tests conducted in November 2024. During this phase, ContourGlobal generated positive socioeconomic impact by employing numerous local workers and engaging local suppliers. The asset integrates 19,845 Suntech bifacial modules, 35 Sungrow inverters and 278 Monoline trackers, and connects to the grid through Enel’s Simijaca substation at 13.2 kV via a 3.74 km transmission line. The high-altitude site provides ideal conditions for solar generation and contributes to the plant’s strong performance outlook.
The seller, ABO Energy, an international developer headquartered in Germany, has been active in the Colombian renewable energy sector since 2018 through its local subsidiary. With this acquisition, ContourGlobal reinforces its presence in the country, where it holds a 62.7% share in TermoemCali, owner of a 240 MW combined-cycle plant that plays a strategic role in supporting Colombia’s energy security. The remaining share is held by the public utility Emcali.
Camilo Aristizabal Villegas, Administrative Director, added: “The agreement included the purchase of 100% of Condor’s shares and initiates a merger process with TermoemCali. Through this acquisition, we reinforce our strategic focus on renewable energy growth while taking advantage of Colombian tax incentives. The deal also includes a two-year operation and maintenance contract with ABO Energy Colombia, as well as a 15-year PPA contract.”
This milestone confirms ContourGlobal’s continued commitment to expanding its renewable portfolio in Latin America while supporting local communities and contributing to Colombia’s long-term decarbonization strategy.
