Power Plants in Mexico
ContourGlobal acquired two highly efficient combined heat and power (“CHP”) plants in Mexico in 2019. The two CHP plants provide electricity and steam under medium and long-term contracts to high-quality private counterparties.
CELCSA, located in Cosoleacaque, Veracruz, has a capacity of 104MW and entered into commercial operations in December 2014. It provides power and steam to Alpek’s adjacent petrochemical plants (subsidiaries of Alfa S.A.B. de C.V.) under long-term agreements, with excess power output supplied to large industrial and commercial off-takers in Mexico through medium and long-term agreements. CELCSA is one of the most efficient CHP plants in Mexico.
CGA is located in Altamira, Tamaulipas and has a capacity of 414MW. CGA entered into commercial operations in the third quarter of 2019. Like our other facility in Mexico, CGA is adjacent to a petrochemical plant owned by Alpek that receives steam under a long-term supply agreement. Excess power output is supplied to a diversified portfolio of commercial and industrial off-takers through medium and long-term agreements.
CELCSA and CGA are classified as clean energy technologies in Mexico, a regulatory framework that recognizes the facilities’ superior operating efficiency compared to conventional gas and liquid fired generation.
