  • Final photovoltaic panel installed at Phase II (139 MWp or 107 MWac) of the Black Hollow Sun complex in Weld County, Colorado.
  • Together with BHS I (185 MWp or 150 MWac, in commercial operation since September 2025), the full complex is set to reach commercial operation in the second half of 2026.
  • Once fully operational, the 324 MWp (257 MWac) complex will be Northern Colorado’s largest solar project, supplying approximately 608 GWh/year to Platte River Power Authority.

ContourGlobal announces the installation of the last photovoltaic panel at Black Hollow Sun, marking a major milestone for the completion of the 324 MWp solar facility near Fort Collins. The complex’s first phase, Black Hollow Sun I (185 MWp), entered commercial operation in September 2025. With the completion of panel installation at Phase II (139 MWp), the project now advances toward energization and commissioning, with full commercial operation expected in the second half of 2026. Designed as a single integrated facility, the two phases share key infrastructure, optimizing land use while enhancing technical efficiency and operational reliability.

Once fully operational, the complex will become Northern Colorado’s largest solar project. The facility is expected to generate approximately 608 GWh of clean electricity annually, delivered to Platte River Power Authority (PRPA)—a community owned public power generation and transmission utility—under a 20-year busbar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The output will be sufficient to power more than 73,000 homes and businesses across the PRPA communities of Fort Collins, Estes Park, Longmont and Loveland representing Platte River’s largest contracted solar asset. Phase I has been steadily supplying renewable electricity to the grid, supporting PRPA’s transition toward a more sustainable energy portfolio.

The installation of the final panel—the last of more than half a million across the entire complex—was celebrated on-site last week by representatives of the two companies. The symbolic installation was completed by ContourGlobal CEO Antonio Cammisecra and Platte River Power Authority General Manager and CEO Jason Frisbie, underscoring the strategic partnership spirit behind the project and its long-term benefits for the region.

“The installation of the final panel at Black Hollow Sun II marks an important milestone for ContourGlobal and a moment we are proud to share with Platte River Power Authority. We are now moving into energization and commissioning of the project as we progress towards full commercial operation in the upcoming months,” said Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of ContourGlobal. “This installation of the final panel together with Jason demonstrates how our partnership goes beyond formal agreements, thriving on close collaboration between our teams. We are excited about the opportunity to further strengthen and expand our relationship with PRPA.”

This project is essential to advancing the noncarbon energy goals of our owner communities, and reaching this milestone reflects more than seven years of dedication from our project team,” said Jason Frisbie, General Manager and CEO of PRPA. “Since launching the project in 2019, we’ve overcome significant challenges — from the pandemic and related delays to supply chain disruptions and inflation. Throughout it all, our team remained steadfast in bringing this resource online for the benefit of our communities. I’m also grateful for the strong partnership with Antonio and the ContourGlobal team. This project will serve Northern Colorado reliably for decades to come.”

Black Hollow Sun represents ContourGlobal’s first large-scale solar construction in the United States and a significant step forward in the company’s renewable expansion nationwide. It complements ContourGlobal’s diversified U.S. portfolio that includes 1.2 GW of thermal capacity and a portfolio of more than 1.1 GW of renewable generation, including projects in operation, under construction or advanced development across Colorado, Virginia, Arizona, and South Carolina.

A central pillar of the project is its U.S.-based construction and equipment supply chain, supported by Qcells as construction partner and module provider, supplying more than 500,000 advanced solar panels including those assembled at its US-based facilities.

Equally important has been the project’s close integration with the local community. ContourGlobal has worked with the Town of Severance, Weld County officials, and local residents to align development with community priorities, while ongoing collaboration with PRPA has ensured coordinated milestones and long-term regional benefits.
