Powering Greece with Solar PV and Battery Storage
ContourGlobal has entered in the Greek market in January 2026, with the acquisition of 37 MWp operational solar PV portfolio and 500 MW / 2,000 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in mature state of development.
The solar portfolio includes 26 operating PV plants across the country, commissioned between 2011 and 2022 and benefiting from long-term supportive revenue schemes. The plants can generate ~51 GWh/year, powering around 15,000 Greek households.
The BESS projects come from 2 transactions. The first one, is a 100 MW / 400 MWh ready-to-build facility in Thessaly with 4 hours of duration. Construction starts Q1 2026 and operations by early 2027. It will be one of Greece’s first merchant BESS.
The second one includes up to 400 MW / 1,600 MWh of additional BESS projects in advanced stage of development, eligible under Greece’s Priority Regime for Battery Storage, fast-tracking up to 4.7 GW of standalone storage.
ContourGlobal continues to explore further development opportunities in Greece as part of its long-term strategy in renewable energy and battery storage. This acquisition marks a major step in Europe, complementing operations in Italy, Spain, Austria and Bulgaria.
