Hydro Brazil

ContourGlobal owns nine Hydro Power Plants in Brazil with a gross capacity of 168.6 MW. Like traditional hydroelectric plants, run-of-river installations use water to drive electricity-generating turbines, but with less environmental impact compared to the large reservoirs. ContourGlobal estimates that Brazil has up to 10,000 MW in untapped run-of-river potential.

Goiás Sul comprises of two Hydro Power Plants located in the state of Goiás, Brazil: SHP Goiandira and SHP Nova Aurora. SHP Goiandira has 2 Francis turbines totaling 27 MW of installed capacity, producing around 88 GWh per year. SHP Nova Aurora has 21 MW and produces 53 GWh per year using its 2 Francis turbines. Together, the plants have enough power to supply approximately 750 thousand homes.

Rio PCH

  • 39,2 MW

    installed capacity

  • Since 2009

    in operation

Rio PCH is comprised of two Hydro Power Plants located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: SHP Pirapeting and SHP Pedra do Garrafão. Both power plants were Commissioned in 2009.

SHP Pirapetinga has 2 Francis horizontal turbines totaling 20.0 MW of installed capacity. SHP Pedra do Garrafão has 19 MW distributed in 2 Francis vertical turbines. Together, the plants produce around 96.0 GWh per year, enough power to supply approximately 600 thousand homes.

How we work with our neighbors:

  • Providing materials for activities at a child labor eradication center. Children involved in the center’s sports, music, and recreational activities are less likely to be drawn into child labor.
  • Refurbishing a retirement home with bedding, furniture, and repairs for a healthy and safe living environment
  • Organizing a four-day Environmental Week event series with site visits and activities for 100+ area students
