We evaluate all our projects with sustainability in mind, because sustainability – like efficiency – is as good for the bottom line as it is the environment. Specifically, we developed our business model around four principles we believe are critical to sustainability.
ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT
Managing the environmental footprint of any energy-generation facility is a matter of commitment and an understanding of the impact inherent with any fuel choice. We believe our portfolio is helping to improve the sustainability of the emerging and mature markets in which we operate, and we continue to bring innovation to bear on even our most efficient operations. Take our Quad-Gen installations for example – three of them already have demonstrated efficiencies greater than 80%. To reduce our impact even further, we pass waste water through onsite treatment facilities for reuse, instead of discharging it down a drain, for better use of all required resources. TAILORED ENERGY SOLUTIONS
As a fuel-agnostic developer and operator, we base fueling decisions on what’s right for the project, not what’s easiest for us. We look at local fuel resources – whether they include natural gas, coal, hydro or, simply, abundant sunlight – with an innovative eye. In this way, we limit energy- and resource-intensive fuel transportation and help ensure our plants will remain viable in energy marketplaces that continue to evolve. That’s how we created the first turkey-litter-fueled power plant in the U.S. in Minnesota – the nation’s turkey capitol. Learn more about our tailored energy solutions.
OUR PEOPLE
Much of our workforce comes from the communities in which we work, and our relationship with these employees begins with fair hiring practices and clear communication of employee rights. The health and safety of these employees is the highest priority of our entire organization – we operate with a mission that “everyone goes home safe, every day, everywhere.” Learn more about our people.
LOCAL ENGAGEMENT
We engage with local communities and governments to help ensure the life and culture of the regions in which we operate continue to thrive. We expect every plant site and office to be involved in social and environmental activities. These have included funding for schools and literacy programs, construction of community facilities and even a pilot project to aid small chicken farmers in Cali, Colombia.
