Compañía Eléctrica Sochagota
Compañía Eléctrica Sochagota operates Termopaipa IV, a 165 megawatt coal-fired plant located in Boyacá, Colombia. Termopaipa IV began commercial operations on January 7, 1999. The plant’s capacity is committed to Gestion Energetica S.A. (Gensa) thru a 20-year PPA expiring in 2019. Boyacá is a region rich in bituminous coal which is used as the feedstock for all of our generation.
Our partners in this business are Evonik Industries AG and Invernac S.A.
Reliability Matters
Termopaipa IV is the most technologically advanced coal-fired facility in Colombia. Since the plant provides critical thermal capacity in a predominantly hydro dependant system, the power purchase agreement is guaranteed by a state-controlled power development institution that is, in turn, guaranteed by the government itself.
