SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Every ContourGlobal plant site and office is required to be involved in their local communities through social and environmental activities, with each location’s employees choosing the efforts they believe will have the biggest impact on their region. Our people have built schools in Togo, sponsored literacy programs and equipment donations in Brazil and sponsored construction of a public ice-skating rink in Ukraine. We also believe we owe it to those around us to be forthcoming about any potential risks or impacts our project plans pose, and we do this in both formal and informal ways – from meetings with governments and municipalities to participating in town hall meetings.
ETHICAL PROCUREMENT
Sustaining our own community standing depends on building relationships with suppliers who share our commitment to ethical performance. Our vendor-selection process includes the standard assurances of financial and legal compliance, along with a more critical look at less obvious business practices. We use external sources to conduct background checks – including blacklist and anti-bribery reports – to help us maintain consistent attention to our core values.
TRANSPARENCY
ContourGlobal’s generating facilities span the globe, and many of the countries in which we operate score poorly on a number of transparency and corruption indices. We have made the conscious decision that it is better to do business well in “tough” places, and thereby improve the overall business climate, than to avoid such places and perpetuate the absence of critically needed infrastructure. Our Anti-Corrupt Practices Policy addresses the challenges of this commitment. This policy and our corporate Code of Conduct contain guidance on conflicts of interest, political contributions and activities, interactions with government representatives and other potential hazard areas. All employees are required to acknowledge their commitment to upholding the policies specified in these guidelines.
